Jon Olsson Super Sessions

For those of you that have not heard of Jon Olsson Super Sessions or Jon Olsson for that matter..quit riding! Just kidding. But, I do hope you’ve heard of him. Jon Olsson is a super pro freestyle skier and racer. He’s been hot on the scene for years and doesn’t do too badly for himself seeing as he drives a Lambo to the hill. Anyways, several years ago Jon started his own competition called the Jon Olsson Invitational because he was fed up with formats and poorly built features of other comps. This competition has turned into JOSS.

JOSS has been voted as the most prestigious freeskiing event of the season. In this competition 21 of the world’s best freeskiers and 12 of the world’s finest ski film makers work together in 7 different teams, representing 7 nations. The teams are: Sweden, Norway, Europe, Down Under, Newschoolers, USA and Canada. Each team consists of 5 people, 2 filmers, 2 pro skiers and a rookie skier. The rookie is new for this year and the only condition to classify as a rookie is that you haven´t participated in X-games before 2010.

The teams have 264 hours to let out their creativity on the features in and around Åre including urban features. The goal is to put together the most amazing and entertaining 5-minute edit. There’s a healthy cash prize and winner takes it all.

The teams’ efforts will be unveiled at the Mix Megapol Arena in front of a massive audience. This venue is somewhat of a gala night. Different nominations and awards are handed out here but instead of rewarding the best sound etc the best trick is rewarded, the most spectacular crash etc. All the 5-minute edits are shown and the judges will present the winner of JOSS 2010.

Heres Day one of 2010.

Keep it real Grouse,

Happy New Year!!

So finally 2010 is here to stay, snow is on the slopes, skis and boards on our feet…or at least thats where they should be…and if that’s the case, then there should also be smiles on our faces!

I thought to kick off the 2010 season, I’d share one of my personal favourite 08/09 season edits, thus ending last season with good vibes and starting this one with the same vibes and limitless possiblities for the upcoming year.

Gus Kentworthy broke his collar bone during one of the Dew tour stops recently.. here is the self edit result of his boredom.

Keep it real Grouse!

Scott Afterbang Contest

Afterbang: After landing a sick skiing trick you ride away all steezy and relaxed. Some people thinks this makes them look extra talented. – UrbanDictionary.com

From freeskier.com:

Scott USA respects that when you stomp a trick, you chuck in your favorite afterbang. Whether or not you know it, we make sick gloves.

In recognition of claimers worldwide, we want you to see your best afterbangs. And we’d be even more stoked to see you throw your hands in the air in proper claiming fashion (cause you definitely will once you are rocking some SCOTT gloves in victory).

Whoever has the best afterbang (some high hands so we can see your gloves will definitely help your chances) will win some SCOTT goods. Submit your best afterbang edit to freeskier.com and the top ten will win SCOTT gear.

Winners will be chosen by Scott athletes; Dane Tudor, Ian Cosco, Nick Martini, Henrik Lampert, Michelle Parker, Keri Herman, Alex Schlopy etc.

So it’s all about the ride away. It’s that simple. Stomp and ride away with style and you could score yourself some wicked Scott swag, including a pair of 173 P3 skis. Dope!

Head over to freeskier.com to find out how to enter.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last few years and don’t quite know how to ‘bang, or you need a little inspiration, check this video of one of the best afterbangers in the game, Jon Brogan:

Note the ride away…bangin.

Superunknown VI

Put together an edit, become super famous…it’s that simple.

This week Josh Berman and Level 1 Productions dropped the 25 finalists for this year’s Superunknown contest. Now in its sixth year, Superunknown has repeatedly proven to be the contest for up and coming skiers to make a name for themselves. With a spot in Bermans next film on the line, sponsorship options, and a foot in the door to the ski industry, this year’s contest drew hundreds of entries.

The level of skiing displayed is far greater than any in years past (with the exception of Wallisch’s Superunknown IV video…but he’s not human so that doesn’t count). This year’s top 25 have more spins, flips (and a few doubles), pretzels, afterbang, tall-tees, and Lil Wayne, than one person can count. Berman and crew, who have a notorious eye for style, no doubt have a tough decision on their hands.

The winner will follow in the foot steps of previous winners, Corey Vanular, JD Zicat, Mike Clarke, Tom Wallisch, and Jon Brogan. Even the runner-ups benneift from this contest. In years past loosing entrys have included: Ahmet Dadali, Mike Honrbeck, Ian Cosco, Nick Martini, and Mike Riddle…just to name a few.

So check ‘em out! Watch them all and let me know who you think deserves the win. Or if you don’t have the time, here are some of the top favorites over at newschoolers.com:
