Oakley Year End Jam: Sunny Skies, Good Friends, Hecka Prizing

Yesterday afternoon, on a spring day that could not have been any more perfect than it was, with a park setup built especially for the occasion, the good folks at Grouse Mountain Terrain Parks and Grousepark.com threw a season ending jam for the ages.  Shaw Butterworth, Marcus Cartwright, Adam Nicolls, Tom Robinson and Dan Ripper were up early yesterday morning, hoping to get some solid build time, only to run into technical difficulties.  With all issues finally resolved at 10 am, they went to work to build a formidable set up consisting of two jumps, a hip and a variety of rails.  The hip seemed to be the feature of the afternoon, with kids sending it bigger than I’ve ever seen at a local Grouse event.  I won’t ramble on too much as the other bloggers will be bringing you better coverage, pictures and some Go Pro footage.  I just want to thank everyone from park crew that was there helping with the jam.  Rob Morrison came out for his afternoon shift and helped out huge with course maintenance and tear down.  I also want to give a huuuge shout to Jeff Silcock, Grouse Mountain’s Events and Sponsorship manager.  Jeff is a background guy, you don’t really see what he does, but without this guy, we’d have no park and the parks definitely would not have grown to where they are.  Jeff was there taking pictures all afternoon and you can find them all on our Facebook fan page.

Sunglasses and smiles all around.

Thanks to our sponsors, Quiksilver, DC, Oakley and Roxy, as well as Pow Gloves for hooking up over $3000 worth of prizing. Also, huge thanks to everyone that showed up and ripped hard.  Most of you took a tongue lashing from me and put up with it.  Not that you really had a choice.  It’s tough love, kiddies.  You’ll thank me one day.  I called the local scene out on their lack of A-game, but you all definitely brought the noise yesterday.  We’ll be back next season with more prizing to give away, hopefully I’ll be back as well, but that’s up to Jeff and the crew downstairs.  Here’s to hoping we can get the parks bigger and better next year!

No one took me up on my offer to dance for a pair of goggles. Weak.

Grouse Park : Rookie Park Update

The fun factor at the Grouse Mountain Rookie terrain park has increased by a very large number.  After the build for the Office Booyz contest, the rookie park is looking better than it has all season…or ever, for that matter.  There’s a quarter pip/spine, two tires to do whatever you want on them, filing cabinets and desks to jib, boxes setup in a C formation, a whale tail to down box combo and an exquisitely manicured jump to top it all off.  I was going to take pictures of some of the features for you, but I was having the most fun riding park I’ve had all year. I’d suggest going up and checking it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed. Props to the park crew!

Additionally, the Quiksilver terrain park now has a FIVE hit jump line. What!? Yea, you heard right, the jump set up is so amazing right now.  No more needing to straight line from the lifts! Throw up a big ol’ whoop whoop for Shaw Butterworth and his jump building!

I should be studying for exams, but after riding today, I’m pretty sure I’ll be spending all weekend in the parks.  You should too!

Don’t hate, just ride,

Sam

New PYP Edit and other goodies!

What you sayin’!

Chuck here, just letting you know about the new PYP edit, check it out and show all of your friends, we have some big plans in the works so hold tight and prepare to be stoked!! Make sure you get up Grouse Mountain very soon, Shaw Butterworth has been making magic from the snowcat and you will see a five table L-XL line in the park, that is unheard of on the North Shore… so thanks Shaw for all your hard work!

Also check out where the 40 box has been moved to, as well has the down rail from Showdown over the City is up and running now.  One last thing, the new up-flat-down or battleship rail has also been installed where the 40 box used to be… I am not posting any photos so you guys get up there and see it yourself!

Bright sun, great friends and a sick park, what more do you need?

The Vancouver Inversion in Photos

So last week with the inversion happening, I got to snap a few shots before my camera randomly stopped working. Along with photography, you get many different ranked shots. Many people dont ever end up seeing what 95% of a photographers shots look like. Well I would like to show you some of mine that dont end up making the cut. Basically some fun shots of people riding some tables. Alot of friends come over to see what shots i have of them which dont get released, and alot of other people dont ever get to see them. So heres a few i got from last week on Jan 14th.Remember though, along with these snaps no editing whatsoever has been involved.
