Hello!
Hello Everyone!
My name is Matthew Waring and this is my first year producing content for the grouse blog! I am exited to get this season going and to spend as much time as I possibly can up in the mountains. I am originally from Ontario and am currently going to school at Capilano University. I have been living in BC for 3 years, one in Whistler and two in Vancouver. My main passions are skiing and photography so I am happy to be able to combine the two using Grouse Park blog as an outlet. When I’m not in school you will see me in the mountains skiing, filming and generally having fun, because we live in an insane part of the world!
Here are a couple of clips from December in the Hike Park – One of the best parts about this set up is that you can re-learn all of those rusty tricks you may have lost from the summer. Perfectly mellow features to get tricks on, before taking them to bigger stuff. That’s it for now – see you up there.

Fresh Season Fresh Photos
What’s up Grouse Park blog readers? Jason Macfarlane here to put out content for another season. If you’re new to grousepark.com, this is my third season writing for the blog. I am an 18 year old skier from North Vancouver, currently enrolled in my first year of university. This year I am also a part of the Park Crew staff on Grouse Mountain. So I’ll be writing about the park, helping to build, maintain and keep it running smoothly.
Lack of snow has been a bit of a challenge so far this year, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t pulled off some good features. The Park Crew have worked hard (which hasn’t been me so far so I can’t take credit for this) and have put together an awesome line of rail features in The Cut park. Jam packed, it is probably one of the jib parks with the best flow the mountain has ever seen.
Recently, Trint Thomas and I spent a few hours in the sun shooting some pictures and video clips. Here’s one of my favourites from that day.

Want To Win $5000?
The clock is ticking down on the SanDisk Best Photo Sequence contest. April 1, 2010 is the deadline – which means you only have about 30 days to get your sequences uploaded for a chance to win $5,000!
SanDisk has teamed up with Freeskier to put on this epic photo sequence contest. Here’s how it works:
1. Get out on the hill and shoot some sequences
2. Morph your sequences
3. Upload your best sequences (from this year or from years past) to BestPhotoSequence.com.
4. Repeat steps 1 – 3 throughout the season as many times as you’d like.
5. Sit back and wait to see if you’ve won the grand prize of $5,000 cash money.
The contest closes April 1, 2010, so get to it, and good luck!

Slushy Deliciousness!
On Tuesday last week, Jack, Nick, Reid, and myself made our way up the rally course that is the road to Seymour, for some after-class shred action. Not exactly sure what to expect (as university students, we’re apparently still unable to check forecasts),
we were greeted by slushy, drizzly, warm springtime conditions… a bit like summer, really. Needless to say, we forgot our shorts. However, the park was fun, no one was on hill, and the only people in the lift lines were two frenchmen chatting away the hours to each other. We all seemed to get lost in the quiet of this deserted mountain playpark, hot lapping and jibbing with ouropen jackets battering against the wind. At 10pm I remembered I’d brought the camera, so the few shots below are what came of it, after begging the one lone ski patroller to let us get just a few more frames before everyone went home. Great times.

It’s Snowing, It’s Snowing!
Good news, there’s fresh snow on the ground. The recent dip in temperatures have resulted in a frosting on all the locals. Much needed frosting, to say the least. Let’s hope the temperatures stay low and the base starts to build up so the park crew can get more going in the Quiksilver park. Not to say what they’ve provided us with given the conditions isn’t absolutely phenomenal. You guys kill it! Anyways, that’s all I really wanted to say. Also, if you really want to know what my unfiltered thoughts are on snowboarding, the Olympics and life in general, feel free to get on Twitter and follow my useless banter or get in touch with me. Or don’t. Your call, really.
PS: I miss riding with Jordan Johnstone and Max Buchanan. If you’re reading this, go riding more.
Here are some more pictures from the Oakley Night Jam, taked by one of our latest additions to Grousepark.com, Hamish Baxter. Our bloggers kill it!

Ride!
As a skier, I came to realize very early on that you can never expect too much from the hill or the weather. You must make do with what is handed to you. This year, being an El nino season, has very much been that for all of us riders. Instead of complaining about ice hurting, rain melting our jumps into jumps for ants and causing our rails to slide down the slopes, we should just be stoked that we even have this amazing sport and it will become that much better when the temperature drops and the goods start fallin!!
Here’s some shots of Saturday! Keep hyped!

Will Binks getting ready to ride.

Sliding it to the end. If this is you, comment below and let us know!

I like your goggles, Matt Cooper.

The Vancouver Inversion in Photos
So last week with the inversion happening, I got to snap a few shots before my camera randomly stopped working. Along with photography, you get many different ranked shots. Many people dont ever end up seeing what 95% of a photographers shots look like. Well I would like to show you some of mine that dont end up making the cut. Basically some fun shots of people riding some tables. Alot of friends come over to see what shots i have of them which dont get released, and alot of other people dont ever get to see them. So heres a few i got from last week on Jan 14th.Remember though, along with these snaps no editing whatsoever has been involved.

Chris Dedinsky on his off time (Park Crew)

Liam Casey

Shaw Butterworth on his off time as well

Daniel Jonas BS 7?

Jayson Deguesseme

Sylvain Paradis after a day of school
So after some fun and warming up on the lower tables, the sun started to go down.
Liam and I went to go take advantage of it, and ended up with this:

This is another shot but with Dan Jonas on the day before. As you can see the sunset wasnt exactly the same so we ended up with more of a flat light which I then turned into a silhouette.

Dan Jonas
Well now im off to go ski some Grouse Mountain. See ya up there.
Scott Titterington
Hello from Scott!
OH HEY! So i found ten minutes in my day! And well its time to write my first entry… So as a few may know already, my name is Scott Titterington, I am a 19 year old, and I like to ski, photograph and party (order may vary due to season). You may see me walking around with my camera in my hand alot of the time, or maybe on my two sticks I like to play around on. Either or come up and say Hello.
With all this snow falling on the city, I am not getting alot of free time due to urban shoots, and Christmas portraits. I still havent done my Christmas shopping! Last night was we found some time to get the original gang together and all went out to have some fun in the city. Turned up with this one:

If you dont already know this kid (Liam Casey) go give him a high five. Dont ask me how he does stuff like this, but he usually says if he has seen it before, he knows its possible. This year I will be doing alot of shooting around Grouse Mountain, so if you see me around, come tap me on the shoulder, or even just come up and introduce yourself if i already dont know you.
Anyways I gotta get back to my regular schedule for this week, and will most likely see you up at Grouse Mountain.

Oakley NightJams start tonight!
Well kids, its that time again. Tonight marks the start of another Oakley NightJams series. Our good friends from Coastal Riders will be onhand to call the action and make sure that everyone is well entertianed and walks away with loads of prizing. If you haven’t done your christmas shopping yet, then come up for the event, win a prize, and wrap it up for someone on your list. This year we have more prizing than ever before! The action gets going at 7pm in the Quiksilver Park. Be prepared- It will be a very cold night!
If you can’t make it, check back here after the event for some post event highlights and photos.
Staying on the ‘night’ topic. Check out this amaizng shot that recently graced the cover of Playboard Magazine’s(Germany’s top mag) Photo Issue. It also made it into SNOWBOARD Magazine. This shot was taken by local photog Gonzo Tudela . His subject is Whistler rider Eric Greene. Who says you need an epic city backdrop to get a cover shot! I beleive the shot was taken some time around 2-3am during our 24 Hours of Winter Event last season.
Believe it or not, this is Gonzo’s second cover shot from Grouse Mountain that was taken on a foggy night. This other shot is from the SBC Business Issue from a few years ago.
