Showdown over the City Course Preview

I don`t know about you, but I cannot wait for the Showdown over the City. If you don`t know, the Showdown will be taking place this Friday and Saturday at Grouse. The course is pretty gnarly this year with some big features. I thought I would snap some shots of the course exclusively for you, our Grouse Park viewers. Here it is from top to bottom.

Sun in the Grouse Park

Many students like me got to take advantage of class being out early this week. The sun was out and the park was dialed. My fisheye lens arrived right on time for this and I brought it up to snap some shots. Here’s what I came up with while enjoying this wonderful holiday.

Night Sesh!

Why not head up to Grouse for a Night Sesh? Here’s an edit I threw together from a quick after school shred last Wednesday with Mike, Dylan, Logan, Shawn, and Ryan. Enjoy!

PS. More snow is in the forecast and the Y2Play is Back! Check it out here for a killer deal on a seasons pass!

Peace!

First Daze First Post

The Cut Line is fun and the GoPro’s are out.
My first post and first year with the Grouse Park blog. I am excited to be contributing and riding up at Grouse Mountain this season. Some background info on myself: snowboarding for over eleven years, blogging for about six and living in Vancouver for almost two. An enthusiast of all things culture, I plan on adding a fresh perspective and some frequent content to the blog — from ‘day in the park’ to product reviews, it’s going to be a fun season.

Inversion in the Park

Clouds covered the city, but that wasn’t the case for Grouse. Check out some shots taken on Sunday.

Early Season Edit

Just a little edit filmed during a few days at Grouse before Christmas. Filmed by Sebastian Gerhard and edited by Patrick Rychter. Fun times. Enjoy!

Get stoked for the rebuild!

Quick Grouse Edit

Hey Guys,  Went up filming Thursday night with Simon and Shayan to test out the Steadicam.  The Steadicam was incredibly hard to use and in most cases was shakier then handheld … but I’ll get the hang of it.  Anyways it was cloudy up there so I decided to mix up the colors a bit … lemme know what you think.

Session Soundtrack

Most people that ride the park have a certain type of music that they enjoy pounding into their brains while they shred.  There seems to be a clear divide between those that listen to hip hop and those who ride to punk or metal.  Then there’s the slowly emerging subset of riders who prefer synths and drum loops electronically mashed into a delicious electro-pop concoction.

Personally, there are a bunch of tracks that I NEED when I ride.  So, without further ado, my top 10 throw down tunes, in no particular order.  Trust me, it was hard to narrow it down to just 10.

1. Crimewave – Crystal Castles vs. HEALTH mix

2. Disciple – Nas

3. Roll on Out – Zion I ft. Mac Dre

4. Silhouette – Thrice

5. Composure – August Burns Red

6. Translating the Name – Saosin

7. Ohio All Stars – Hi-Tek ft. Cross, Showtime, Mann and Chip The Rippa

8. Destroy Everything You Touch – Ladytron

9. Chelsea Dagger – The Fratellis

10. Little Weapon -Lupe Fiasco ft. Bishop G and Nikki Jean

What I want to know is what hypes you up when you ride?  I’m always looking for more tunes for my collection.  Let me know who you’re reppin’ and what you think of the above tunes. I’m also going to post up a Holiday version of this list, in case you want some unconventional Christmas music to rock this next week.

Lastly, ever wonder what that song was from the boarding video you watched or what the pro’s are listening to?  You can thank me later.

Happy listening.

Happy Holidays

So it’s that time of year, kids are starting their Christmas breaks and the malls are madness….if you haven’t started your shopping yet, I feel for ya. So, to help relieve you of your holiday stresses, we have been able to throw a few features into the Quiksilver Park to create a line. All the snow we have been receiving lately has definitely helped as is the cold temperatures for making snow, and if Mother Nature continues to be cooperative we will be up and running at full throttle very shortly.

I would also like to welcome to the Grouse Mountain Terrain Park blog crew, the newly acquired blogospondents, which are; Cam Harris, Charlie Grinnell, Daniel Jonas, Scott Titterington, Chris Jones and Sam Masih. These fellows will be taking pictures, filming and writing blogs for grousepark.com about all things ski and snowboard related within the local scene, so keep an eye out for their informative and interesting views on whats going on.

Also, tonight’s our first Oakley Night Jam event of the season, so come on up for some jibtastic fun and a chance to take home some sweet prizes, but bundle up as its gonna be a cold one.

The Park Crew and myself would like to wish you all a safe and Happy Holiday season.
