Season Ender Bender

GrousePark,

As you all know, Grouse has just about closed up shop for the season with one week left of riding!

Wanted to say that it was an awesome time getting to write for the park blog thanks to Grouse, the park crew, Oolar and the snow gods for making this season one of the best in a long time. I had a great time shredding Grouse riding with buddies and new buddies and stoked for more!

Make sure to get up for the last couple days, and if you can’t make it up to ALL of the remaining days get up for CLOSING DAY, and wear something rad! Tell all friends Grouse is going to be firing!!!

Look out for hopefully a few more edits either from me or any other of the righteous team of bloggers.

P.S. Jake Blauvelt’s Naturally series is one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Blauvelts riding style is ulike any other. Enjoy

See you at the slush,

Jean

Foggy Photos

To get to the point, I’ve had a pretty itchy trigger finger the past few weeks. I got sick of waiting for a sunny weekend to shoot and decided to try my luck in the fog today with Joe Mickelson, Ben Neil and Luciano Babaie. Definitely made the right choice. The fog rolled in and out all day, but it didn’t stop anyone from having a good time or throwing down for the camera. We spent most of the day on the Cut jump line and towards the end made a few laps through Quiksilver. Both are still in pristine condition thanks to the hard workers behind the shovels. Keep on keepin’ on park crew, you’re killing it harder this year than ever before.

Grouse: Cut Park Montage

The park is now running smoothly on Cut with some very fun features. Here’s a quick little edit thrown together by Shayan including some shots from Quik park when it was still in business. Enjoy.

The Red Ledge

There are a lot of urban rails that are seen time and time again in movies. Probably one of the most famous rails is The Red Ledge in Quebec. Ever since JP Auclair hit is some 10 years ago (don’t quote me on this, only a guess) it has been a relic for many film crews. Today, Mount Seymour played host to a rail jam on a re-made version of the infamous urban feature. It was my first day shooting with my remote flash set-up and unfortunately, due to weather, I was having a few issues. Here is what came out of it.

One last thing, to the commentator who kindly said “I better not see some gay blog about this,” I dedicate this one to you.

An Update from GROUSE

There may not be as much snow on the hill as this time last season, but that hasn’t stopped park crew from keeping this running smoothly. If you haven’t been up lately, you’re missing out. The park has something this season that it has been struggling with the last few years, flow. A few new additions to Grouse’s park crew have helped keep this flow in the park. The other night I got up the mountain and did a few photo laps with Shayan, Park Crew Conrad and new Park Crew Anthony. Anthony and I had a bit of a close call with him almost landing me. I was shooting with a fisheye lens and, as anyone who has shot with a fisheye lens can tell you, it makes things appear to be much farther away. Due to this, I couldn’t tell just how close Anthony was until I felt him tap my backpack on the way down. Anyways, here are some shots from the night.

That’s all for now,

It’s Snowing, It’s Snowing!

Good news, there’s fresh snow on the ground.  The recent dip in temperatures have resulted in a frosting on all the locals.  Much needed frosting, to say the least.  Let’s hope the temperatures stay low and the base starts to build up so the park crew can get more going in the Quiksilver park.  Not to say what they’ve provided us with given the conditions isn’t absolutely phenomenal.  You guys kill it!  Anyways, that’s all I really wanted to say.  Also, if you really want to know what my unfiltered thoughts are on snowboarding, the Olympics and life in general, feel free to get on Twitter and follow my useless banter or get in touch with me. Or don’t.  Your call, really.

PS: I miss riding with Jordan Johnstone and Max Buchanan. If you’re reading this, go riding more.

Here are some more pictures from the Oakley Night Jam, taked by one of our latest additions to Grousepark.com, Hamish Baxter.  Our bloggers kill it!

Another Introduction

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Bill Hawley.  Born and raised seven minutes from the mountains in North Vancouver, I’m a new addition to the Grouse Park Blog and very grateful for it!  As much as I’m new to the blog, I’m not so new to the mountain. I started skiing at Grouse when I was 3 years old and it just became the regular thing to do after school and on weekends. Things progressed from there and when I was about 12 years old, I picked up my parents little point and shoot camera, took a few pictures around the house to keep myself busy and that’s when I realized what I wanted to do for fun.  Skiing and photography.  Now, I’m finally starting to combine the two and it’s proving to be the most kick ass thing I know how to do.

So, now that you know who I am, don’t be shy if you see me up the mountain, I’m the guy wearing the bright blue jacket and pants looking like I shouldn’t be shredding the park.  Come say hi and maybe strike up a conversation! The temperature’s dropping a little bit, so let’s be optimistic and say that’s a sign of snow on the way. Here’s some of my most recent shots to keep you stoked on the season, enjoy!
