Last Friday, Grouse threw one of their monthly night jams. Everyone came out to welcome the new snow and the kids kept it fresh with their after bangs and sweet new manoeuvres. There were tons of Oakley prizes to be won and everyone had a great time. Callem Peake killed it snowboarding, along with skier Simon Stulberg, both winning best overall riders in their respective sports. The most inspirational rider took home a pair of Grouse Oakley collab Crowbars, so shout out to the guy who managed to slit his wrist on the downbar. Hope your doin ok! It was great to see everyone still hyped and killin it mid-March! More jams to come with the good weather, stay tuned birds!

Last night was the Oakley Night Jam. Chuck was on the mic, keeping everyone entertained, Tamo was judging snowboarders, Peter helped out with the ski side of things and everyone was throwing down. The prizes weren’t being thrown out for nothing, the kids had to work for ‘em, so the result was a sick little competition. If you haven’t already heard, the park has been moved over to the left side of Cut and it is actually really fun. The park crew had to get creative but they’ve put a pretty rad setup together so check it out this week.
The comp started off with tricks being called out and prizes were given for whoever could do them first. Then, the format was changed up and there were qualifiers, where the first 3 people to do the designated trick would get into finals. Next, finals were moved to the elbow kink where the finalist who did the right trick first won.
In the end, the winners were Mr. Ben Neil on the ski side of things, walking away with a new pair of Oakley Ambush goggles and Oakley sunglasses, and an underdog on the snowboard side of things, whose name I still don’t know, but he fought hard for the win after turfin’ it pretty hard a few times, snaking a pair of Oakley Crowbars for his efforts. All in all, it was an awesome night, one of the best night jams yet! Don’t miss the next one, who knows it could be even better! Here are some shots:
Well there ya have it! Some kid even went as far as saying that Chuck was the funniest guy around. So, Chuck is officially the funniest guy out there and the park is still kickin’ and better than ever, so get up the mountain as soon as you can and have a good old time!

There may not be much snow on the mountain right now but that doesn’t mean the park isn’t still awesome! The park crew has used a little creativity and worked their asses off to somehow keep the Quik Park as sick as it always is. The best feature in the park right now is the up box. There are a bunch of other rails and boxes but the up box is definitely number one. Frodo and I went up the mountain last night to do some shooting and got a couple decent shots. They’re all of the one box, but we did our best to get creative.
Get up the mountain tomorrow night for the Oakley Night Jam, it’s gonna be fun no matter what. If you can’t get up the mountain, then you should go to Centennial Theater to check out the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, which starts tomorrow and goes till the 29th. So, if you’re sitting at home tomorrow night complaining that there’s nothing to do, then now there’s no excuse! Here are some shots to get you stoked for the Oakley Night Jam!

now on to whistler peace!

Yo,
Tomorrow is the second Oakley Night Jams. Same time as usual, 7pm. The location is going to be either the Quik Park or the Paradise Jib Park. Wasn’t that helpful? Anyways, chances are that if you’re at Grouse Mountain tomorrow night, you’ll hear where it is and you can just follow your nose, so to speak. I want to see the boarders repping harder this time around and I want to see someone other than Brian Choi win all the ski goods. Also, come say hi to me. I’m a pretty nice guy, usually.
Cheers,
Sam

This past Friday, Grouse Mountain kicked off its annual free contest series, the Oakley Night Jams. The format this season differed from the Night Jams of past years in that there was a dedicated setup for the event where the Paradise Jib Park used to be. For the first jam of the season, that park crew had setup at 16 foot butter box, a downbar of equal or greater value and a C-rail set up in a semi circle with lips at both ends for your jibbing pleasure.
The jam started of slow as kids began to trickle slowly in from around the mountain. Our own Charlie Grinnell spread the word through the Quik Park and gathered bodies from all around. Coastal Riders was on hand as the shop sponsor for this first jam. With Charlie on the mic, things quickly got popping as he made sure the event was ski friendly this time around. Grouse Mountain local Brian Choi cleaned house on the ski side of things, so we’re banning him from the next jam. Just kidding. In any case, the skiers were killing it all night on all the features. Trint and Shayan repped hard for the boarders, but all you boarders need to step your game up in time for the next Oakley Night Jam on January 8th. Here are some pictures from Friday night.

With all this pow we’ve had recently up Grouse Mountain, its easy to forget about shredding park. For those of you in need of a little “reminder” of whats going down these days, look no further than the antics that took place this weekend at the second stop of the Winter Dew Tour at Mount Snow, Vermont.
With a slopestyle course manicured to near perfection, the level of riding on Saturday was absolutely absurd. For a little run down of course check this POV cam by the one and only Tom Wallisch provided by the good people over at freeskier.com.
As you can see, the course provided riders with everything needed to make for a contest full of flippy-spinny tomfoolery. Alexis Godbout held down third place with some bangers like a 630 off, right side 900, left 900, and switch left 900.
Making it all look easy was PK Hunder in second place. PK has been slaying the competition scene so far this season. Its tough to imagine that a run with a 360 switch up, switch on to rodeo 450 off, right side 720, switch left 900, and left 1080 could only conjure up a second place. PK appeared to have a little difficulty dropping into the second axis on his patented double cork 1080 which may have hurt his score slightly.
The double cork aside, PK’s run was still no match for first place winner, JF Houle. JF threw down some of the most technical rail tricks ever seen in competition (450 on switch up 450 out, huge 630 out, nose butter 270 on pretzel out) combined with a right side 720, left 900 and switch left 1080, JF and undoubtedly deserved the win…just watch the video.
So kids, let this be an inspiration to you! Get out there and practice up! The Quiksilver park is coming together nicely with three decent sized jumps on the left side. The rails, when not buried in pow, are perfect for getting those 270s, pretzels and k-feds down. Get practicing because the second Oakley Night Jam is coming up on January 23!
See ya up there,
-cj
