Greatest Hits Park Jam
Just last Saturday the Greatest Hits Park Jam dropped in from Mount Seymour. The skies were clear and the bangers were going down. I got a few shots of the jam but unfortunately could not stay for the entire jam. Here’s a little edit I made of some riders tricking it out on the Red Ledge and the Vermont Double set.

Girls, Girls, Girls!
Heyo!
Around 2 weeks ago, Mount Seymour held a girls contest, the “Rugged Riders Kinky Rail Jam”. These rugged girls tore up Seymour’s park like wolves on a freshly tackled lamb. The rugged riders have notoriously been spotted on mountains in the lower mainland as well as inland in the interior. At night time, they have been seen howling at the moon and killing stuff (mainly the terrain).
Luckily, Noah Spivak was there to capture the girls in one of their natural habitats.. here is the video. Enjoy!
This contest was just the beginning for these she wolves, and many more are coming up including the Roxy Chickadee Jam at Grouse on March 6th!
Orage March Madness Ski Comp
For all you skiers out there, the only ski comp in Vancouver is dropping on March 6th at Mount Seymour. Here are the details from the Facebook group, which you should also join.
“Join us March 6th, 2010 for Orage’s “March Madness Slopestyle Contest” at Mount Seymour, BC, where we’ll be getting the shred down with Comor Sports, Mount Seymour and Snowrider.org. Registration is only $15 bucks which includes your lift ticket and lunch. Athletes will kick off the day at approximately 10am and ride till we’re done! Top three will take home a fist full of goodies including a $1000 Orage shopping spree to Comor Sports for 1st place, a $750 Orage shopping spree for 2nd and a $500 Orage shopping spree for 3rd. We will have a grom level heat for plankers under the age of 15. Be sure to bring your own BBall jersey for the contest and as with all contests, helmets are mandatory! No Jersey, No Helmet, No shred.”
So remember, no basketball jersey, not helmet, no ski. Oh, and don’t forget your $15. Yea!
Do You Know What Beef Is?
What is beef? According to deceased rapper Biggie Smalls, beef is when you need two gats to go to sleep. By that definition, it would appear that there is no such beef between the parks at Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour. Most likely because we’re not located in east Brooklyn. In any case, any one who knows anything about the local scene is well aware that there is, unfortunately, beef between the two mountains.
It’s not intermountain beef either. It’s strictly park related. Maybe I’m just old fashioned, but when I was growing up riding, I enjoyed both Grouse and Seymour. Yea, I went to Grouse way more often, but I got up to Seymour every now and then. I was just stoked to ride, didn’t matter where, didn’t matter who had more snow, or who had a better park, or how much the food was, or whether you had to drive up or not. A day on the hill was a day on the hill. Now, it seems like people want to talk shit more than they want to ride. Listening to all the drama that’s going on within the local scene is like reading a script off Peak Season or the OC. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
I’ve heard people say “Why doesn’t Grouse put in some corrugated pipe?” Why does every park have to have the same features? Seymour has corrugated piping set up and yes, it’s super fun. BUT! Grouse has an S-rail, and that’s fun too. They’ve got Nike as a park sponsor, we’ve got Quiksilver. In the end though, who cares? It’s so frustrating, having to deal with all the road blocks that this situation throws up when it comes to the two parks. You go to Seymour as a Grouse rider, you get called out. Why? That’s absolutely retarded. It happens at Grouse too, so don’t get too smug. Moreover, it has nothing to do with the management at either mountain. Have you ever talked to the powers at either mountain? Nicest people ever! It’s just skewed attitudes and ignorance of the riders that ride at either mountain that lead to more drama than all of Shakespeare’s plays put together.
So here’s the deal. Big props to both crews, they’ve both killed it this season. Instead of talking shit, go to one of the local parks, strap in, and get creative on what’s there. There was a time, not too long ago, when having a box and a flat bar was a huge thing. It’s not about who has the most legit handrail, or the most pristine jump. It’s about doing what we do best, and that isn’t dishing beef. It’s riding. If you’ve forgotten what having fun and just riding looks like, here are a few videos to refresh your memory.
Thank you Crapneto, for keeping the fun in snowboarfunding.
Love and Peace,
Sam
Rome Premature Jibulation
Last Saturday, Rome Snowboards held its annual Premature Jibulation contest at Mount Seymour. Here’s a video of the good times that were had. And the riding…holy crap, the riding was more than just nuts.
More companies need to do free events like these. It just creates a good vibe on the scene. It shows that companies are thinking more about the sport than just about the bottom line. Thanks, Rome. Also thanks to Noah Spivak for putting this video together.
Hey Guys!
Hey there, my name is Jeremy Cox. I am stoked to be one of the 09/10 Grouse Mountain blogospondents and can’t wait to share the latest and greatest content throughout the year. Grouse Mountain has become my home mountain ever since I learned to ski at Mount Seymour and Whistler when I was five. Living 20 minutes away from Grouse I can often be found skiing or filming. I would consider filming my hobby and can commonly be seen carrying around a enormous camera bag as long as the the weather is good and the riders are there. I hope to pump out the edits all year long which will be posted on the FOURTYFOUR media Vimeo page and of course here.
On that note, be sure to check out the the new Voleurz Outdoor Graduation film this Wednesday during the online premier.
December 9th at 5pm PST / 8pm EST on Newschoolers.com. or the Voleurz site.
Thanks for reading,
Jeremy
What a weekend!
Ahoy mateys,
From the looks of it, this past weekend was definitely a busy one! I can’t say I did everything out there, but mad props for those of you that did! I had very keen ambitions of doing it all, and by all I mean everything, however an ever-lasting cold and no energy left me in no mood to partake in the festivities. Props to CJ for checking out the pipe events on Cypress, and the Railjam at Park Royal!
For the 48 Hours of Winter weekend up on Grouse Mountain, I think many of us had the intention of staying all night. I was very much in similar spirits, planning on taking the Saturday off to recover, however my body just hated me at the time, and as a result refused to function, despite the endless supply of Rockstar and Redbull. Gahhh. To be brief, the Friday night was great! Lots of people were out and about, stoked to be riding past their curfews and bedtimes.
I ran into local hooligans the J-Crew, who were out in full force. These kids, like many others, were found lapping the park, which I’d have to say, was in rather decent condition.
I’d like to give a huge, huge thanks to all the lifties who worked that night, many of whom worked a freezing cold 12 hour shift!
On Sunday, I made my way up to Mount Seymour for the Menace Slopestyle, put on by Snowcovers. This was an event sponsored by Orage, and was one of the many stops of their coveted Anti-Tour. The focus of the comp was rather less of a competition and more of a fun, jam style session. For this stop, there were roughly 20 competitors in total, ranging from age 13-25.
The course was nestled beautifully beneath the sun, prompting for soft and smooth conditions. The run started off with a nice down rail, stuck between a down box and flat down box.
After the rail was a choice of either large jump or smaller booter. Despite the size of the take offs, these jumps were much much smaller than anticipated, causing many competitors to go waayy deep.
Following the jump was a second booter, this one slightly bigger. A combo pad followed, which had an up pipe rail to down rail on the left, or up butter pad to flat down box on the right. These were really annoying to hit due to speed and space issues, not to mention the lack of attention the judges paid to the end of the course.
After lapping for a couple of hours, the results were in. Todd Loukras took the top spot for the 14-19 category, and Jared Alexanderelphee for the 20+. Overall, an epic day was had by all.
So after much exersice and goggle-tanning, I am home to nurse some shinbang and sore thumb, but I am stoked to get back up the hill asap. As for this, I’ll let Liam Casey close it off.
au revoir
