MGT Academy Update

It’s official. Three girls from the first round of selections for the MGT Academy have been chosen.  The camps at Grouse Mountain produced Marie-Andre Racine, Shelly Julio and Jenna-Mae Togado as candidates for the MGT Academy.  The Academy will pick one girl from the pool of candidates this summer who will get the opportunity to be trained by pro female riders for rapid transit to a career in snowboarding next season.  Neat! If only Translink was that good.

The three girls have also landed spots in the Roxy Chickadee Jam host by Grouse Mountain on March 1, 2009, where they’ll get a chance to strut and polish their skills. Double neat! Be sure to check out the event.  You may see one of them on the cover of a snowboarding magazine in the not so distant future.

Little known fact, Jenna was fighting a bout of unhappy stomach on the second day of camp due to something she ate the night before and she still rocked. That is so punk rock. Who said girls can’t shred?

Monday Madness: Link Fest

A few noteworthy stories I stumbled upon in the last couple of weeks:

MGT Snowboard Camp announces MGT Academy and it’s lineup for 2009 including a weekend at Grouse Mountain:

In 2009, MGT will be holding three, two-day winter camps, the first being a camp at Canada Olympic Park on Dec13th-14th, the venue for the first ever Burton Canadian Open in February. Close on it s heels is another camp for the coastal crowd at Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver Jan 3rd-4th. To cap off the season, MGT is once again returning to Alberta, its original breeding grounds, to session Mt. Norquay’s  re-vamped and professionally cut snowboard park on April 4th-5th.

TTR World Tour has launched a new website.

Grouse Mountain’s opening day weekend had loads of people building kickers and enjoying the snow. BTW, if you have pics you want to share, throw a link in the comments.

Here is the craziest weather forecast ever for Grouse Mountain. It’s really detailed and surprisingly accurate.

The North Face has now launched an iPhone app in the same vein as Snocator et. al. Still don’t have an iPhone to check it out… wish I did. Feel free to post reviews in the comments.

Now, I want to thank everyone who has submitted an application to join our team of blogospondents. The opportunity has now come to a close. I’ll be reviewing all the applications in the next couple of days and will communicate with each applicant by the end of the week.
