Contest Banner

Hey folks,

I’ve got some pretty hyped news for you.  We’re opening up a contest for all you Grousepark.com faithfuls.  The prize that you’ll be dueling for will be a day on the hill for you and three buddies with the Grouse Mountain Pro Team on Sunday, January 17th, as well as a prize pack for you from our sponsors.  You could tell all your friends that you are now friends with not ONE pro, but multiple pros, thus making you the coolest cat on the block.  How do you win? It’s pretty easy.  There are three questions below.  You need to send an email to contest@grousepark.com with correct answers for all three and we’ll put your name into a draw.  The deadline to get your answers in is January 13th at noon.  That gives you a week.  We’ll announce the winner later that night.  Please remember to mention your first and last name, as well as a telephone number that we can reach you at to set things up.  So, without further ado, here are the questions. Get Google fired up!

1. In which team snowboard film did Chris Dufficy make his comeback and what was the movie called?

2. What was the trick that won the 2002 U.S. Open Big Air (skiing) and who won it?

3. Which North American resort was the first to allow snowboarding?

Good luck! Get those entries in!

Random Rambles II

Hiya folks,  you know the drill.

Fellow blogger Dan Jonas and I were able to get out paws on some 2010 Ride gear to take to Grouse mountain.  With the help of Rodrigo Caula, proprietor of Choice Apparel, and two femmes from Grouse’s local J-Crew, Alice Gorton and Sydney Schram, we were able to test the Crush, Machete and DH on the men’s side, and the Canvas and Compact on the women’s side as well as a bunch of bindings and those crazy light boots.  Keep your eyes peeled for product reviews coming soon.

Speaking of Choice Apparel, the new product was shipped out last Wednesday and the line is officially launched as of March 11th.  If you haven’t already done so, hit up the site and get your orders in via email at choiceapparel@hotmail.com!

Some more Choice news.  Grouse Mountain pro team rider, Jenelle Pritchard is the first girl on the Choice team.  Yay!

It’s been flaking kittens for the past week and that good ol’ west coast snow is covering the mountains.  It’s wet, it’s heavy, and it’s so much fun.  Get out and play in the trees, but don’t slow down or get stuck.

Is it just me or is that quarter pipe amazingly fun?  Good job, park crew.

I currently have no park board due to base delamination.  Lucky for me, it’s been pow so I’ve been able to get my 159 out of retirement.  Anyone wanna help me out with something a little/a lot smaller?

I’m going to be sitting down with the founder of Spacecraft Clothing, Stefan Hofmann, for an interactive interview this weekend.  For those that haven’t heard, Spacecraft is an art project using clothing as a medium.  Go and check it out.  The product is sick and the art is even better.  They’re currently based out of Bali and keep a grassroots feel to everything they do.  Pacific Boarder will be carrying the spring line, so make sure you go and take a look.  I’ll have more on Spacecraft in the next couple days.

YLG update

I know, I know, I am a little late on this update, but I have been swamped with midterms, papers, term projects and many more non snowboarding related THINGS.

So, from what I remember, this was the 2nd stop on the Coors Light You look good rider’s cup series, and it was a 3 star ttr event. Scotty and I rolled up around 8 and registered, conditions were spectacular, BLUEBIRD.

Ran into a lot of grouse locals including Zak and Alek Dolesky, Michael Hoy, Nick Felice, some Grouse riders Jenelle Pritchard, Tamo Campos, Barry Hartman and Matt Belzile. The course was super sick, the jumps were small, but on point. The first feature was a staircase feature which included a downbar, down box and flat down box.

Atomic Team Meeting

This past Wendesday was packed full of entertainment.  Grouse Mountain Pro team rider Jenelle Pritchard and myself were out shooting a Grouse Mountain commercial with Carlo Wein and Bryant Bell at Alterna Action.  They were looking for powder shots so we were “forced” to rip up the backside of the mountain and find some solid turns.  It had dumped the previous day so we found what we were looking for.  Next sunny day we will be shooting the park section of the commercial.

We soon met up with the rest of the Atomic Snowboard team along with our BC rep to go over 2009-2010 product and have a quick meeting.  After taking back a round of burgers and pitchers, we were ready to rip the powder-covered park.

Check back soon for video and photo updates.

Wednesdays at Whistler

Alright all you fellers, here is an update from a couple wednesdays ago when myself and local Grouse shredder Alice Gorton went up to Whistler for the day. Conditions were sun, and lots of it and with lift lines being mellow due to being a weekday, we did HOT LAPS all day long!!!

They day turned out to be super fun and super mellow. Whistler’s park is more jib oriented and even more so with the lack of snow up there season. But this is no excuse for the Whistler Park Crew as all their parks are always fun and packed with features. Note worthy features were the really fun tables, multiple array of downbars, the corrigated pipe and picnic tables! Alice was killing it all day as usual. You can usually find Alice lapping the Quiksilver Park most days of the week and she was throwing down. Front lips, back tails, nose grabs and front boards were dialed that day.

We ran into former Grouse local Adam and Ryan and they enjoyed some good times with us.

Despite Adams lack of expression, he was having a very fun day...right Adam!? :)

Next lap we met up with Grouse Mountain Pro Team Rider Jenelle Pritchard and her best friend Stephanie Just, winner of last years Showcase Showdown.

We also saw Grouse Pro Team Rider Barry Hartman, but the guy is too fast and my coolpix skills are too slow!

To end the day, here are some shenanigans from some Whistler locals who dressed up for the sunshine! Enjoy!
