Random Rambles II

Hiya folks,  you know the drill.

Fellow blogger Dan Jonas and I were able to get out paws on some 2010 Ride gear to take to Grouse mountain.  With the help of Rodrigo Caula, proprietor of Choice Apparel, and two femmes from Grouse’s local J-Crew, Alice Gorton and Sydney Schram, we were able to test the Crush, Machete and DH on the men’s side, and the Canvas and Compact on the women’s side as well as a bunch of bindings and those crazy light boots.  Keep your eyes peeled for product reviews coming soon.

Speaking of Choice Apparel, the new product was shipped out last Wednesday and the line is officially launched as of March 11th.  If you haven’t already done so, hit up the site and get your orders in via email at choiceapparel@hotmail.com!

Some more Choice news.  Grouse Mountain pro team rider, Jenelle Pritchard is the first girl on the Choice team.  Yay!

It’s been flaking kittens for the past week and that good ol’ west coast snow is covering the mountains.  It’s wet, it’s heavy, and it’s so much fun.  Get out and play in the trees, but don’t slow down or get stuck.

Is it just me or is that quarter pipe amazingly fun?  Good job, park crew.

I currently have no park board due to base delamination.  Lucky for me, it’s been pow so I’ve been able to get my 159 out of retirement.  Anyone wanna help me out with something a little/a lot smaller?

I’m going to be sitting down with the founder of Spacecraft Clothing, Stefan Hofmann, for an interactive interview this weekend.  For those that haven’t heard, Spacecraft is an art project using clothing as a medium.  Go and check it out.  The product is sick and the art is even better.  They’re currently based out of Bali and keep a grassroots feel to everything they do.  Pacific Boarder will be carrying the spring line, so make sure you go and take a look.  I’ll have more on Spacecraft in the next couple days.

The shoot up north…

Well more north than North Vancouver lets say…

So to start off here was the crew: Charlie Grinnel Grinnell, Pat King, Graeme Meiklejohn, Spencer Watson, Dan Jonas, Liam Casey, and me Scott Titterington.

So around 3pm Thursday, I jump in my car, and go pick up Liam and Dan from their places in my little GTI.  We managed to pack 3 pairs of skis and a snowboard, filled with cam gear, clothes, and just enough food to survive.  Dan was in the back seat with gear crammed all the way around him, and well suprisingly enough we got a few odd looks on the way up to our first stop Westbank Kelowna.  As we arrived from a 5 hour car ride we met up with the rest of the crew and got straight to work.  The first night was sort of rough due to not skiing or riding for a couple days and starting off with such a gnarly rail.  We still ended up with a couple wicked shots though, and quite a few crashes.

The second day we got out around 11ish and headed out to a handrail which was shot in one of the sandbox movies.  As said by Spence the cops came and luckily enough they didn’t have any problem with what we were doing.  I gotta say, I sure wasnt expecting the constables response to sliding a handrail in a residential alley…  Later on that day we basically went to scope out what else was around town, and call it a day.  Getting back to Pat’s place around12:30am, we uploaded our footage and went straight to bed.

So Saturday we went full out and headed out by 10 o’clock.  We headed out to a steep handrail by a highschool.  Shortly into the sesh we had a delay due to Dan catching a back edge and concussing himself.  Charlie and Graeme went with him to the hospital as Spencer, Liam and Pat and I finished off this railing, and headed to the next spot.  As Dan and the hospital gang were doing their thing, Liam went to scope out this pretty crazy line a few steps away.  We had some time so we set up the line and shortly later Liam ended up stomping it like nothing.

After we got back from picking the rest up at the hospital we headed back to Pats place to upload footage once again.  Once it got dark we headed up to Apex Mountain and shot a wallride for the most part.  Liam and Spencer were celebraties.  Liam gave some kids a couple Choice Apparel stickers, and Spencer gave away a Napking bandana.  The kids gathered around and cheered them both on while they lit up the wallride.  On the way back we started the generator up and hit some pow laps in the dark 15 feet from the highway which turned into a couple cool pictures. As which ended we headed back to Pat’s and slept the night away.

9 30am arrives Sunday and we pack up to go back home to either the Mainland or Whistler since most of us have school or work to get back to Monday.

ps. ill be posting some actual riding pictures in some future posts so keep an eye open!

See Ya for now!

Road Trip Day 3

Yo yo yo

So day 3 we slept in till about 12 and then traveled to Vernon and searched for a rail. During this search we found a PVC pipe! It was so fun! It defiantly warmed us up for our next session on a super mellow down rail we found later on. Liam Casey threw down hard and Dan stomped a very clean nose press and front board. We were told off by some neighbor who told us the cops were coming, so we strapped up and clicked in and hit it as many times as we could. The cops came and we just kept sessioning. The cops were cool with it and let us continue riding as long as we cleaned up after! Anywas that’s what happened today and we found a really fun rail for tomorrow so look out for that one it should be a banger.

Grouse 48 hours with Dan and Tan

Hey everyone, I know that it is a week since 48 hours at Grouse and I haven’t written an update about it, so here it is!

We arrived Saturday evening around 8pm and upon getting our passes scanned, we had to go through the security checkpoint. Here is my neighbor Corey Mcintosh, who came up with me and Tanya starting the night off right with a huge smile…as he is about to get frisked by security.

As the night went on, crowds came and went, snow was hardpacked, a little icy in some spots but not too bad at all. Saturday night proved itself to be a much more mellow night than the one previous.

Corey, my girlfriend Tanya and myself met up with Grouse’s very own Charlie Grinnell and Rod Caula and got some filming done. Since the lines were mellow we did about 2-3 hours of follow cams while Charlie camped out at the second jump. At first we filmed with a wide angle lens which is a little harder to film with compared to a fisheye because with a fisheye you can pretty much point it at the rider and he will be in the shot while a wide angle lens consists of a little more effort to get the shot.

Once we were too tired to film, as it was around 3 AM, we split up and rendezvoused back at the chalet. After picking up our care packages (Thanks Michelle Evans!) we set up camp at a table. Charlie took his laptop out and we proceeded to upload the footage and started editing. Charlie’s energy drinks were keeping him go, meanwhile I was experiencing the crash and burn effect from the Rockstars.

Overall, Grouse Mountain’s 48 hours of Winter was a great success. Good times were had, old friends were embraced and new friends were made. Thanks for the good times!

Until next time…PEACE
