Ugh, clouds...

I must admit, I do love me some backflips.

Who said shooting into the sun was a bad thing?

Office Booyz!

Office BoyzThe good folks over at Malakye are bringing the Office Booyz contest series out to Grouse Mountain on Thursday, April 9th.  All you shop boys and girls out there are invited and riding in free for the first 100 enterants.  Incidentally, that’s also the rider cut off, so get there between 8-10:30 am to get registered.  The contests goes till 2 pm, or till whenever you get tired of riding.  This is a good chance for all of you out there that are looking to connect with some industry people, have a good time or sneak some free donuts to do any or all of those things.  There should be an update on the event from one of the other bloggers.  I’ll be missing out, but I’m sure it’ll be a great time, so make sure you get up there to check it out.

The reasons I’m missing out is that fellow blogger CJ and I are headed to Big White for the day.  I’ll be riding some 2010 Stepchild product, so be sure to check back near the end of the month when all the goods we tested will be started to get posted! Sorry, final exams get in the way of writing and riding.

Get out on your skate if you can’t get on the snow!

Jason Macfarlane Alterna Shoot Shots

Sunny skies, pro riders, and a jump bigger than anything the North Shore has seen before… March 29th was a pretty darn good day for a photo shoot. Grouse local, Jason Macfarlane was up Grouse Mountain to shoot the Alterna/Showdown Over the City after session. Here are some of his shots.

Check the goggle shot at the end…damn!

No grab. Huge.

When the takeoff is taller than the scaffolding, you know the jump is good.

Liam Casey corking out.

Timed perfectly...

I got a shot! Jason said he tried this shot about 30 times and these two were the olny ones that worked out. Click the image and head over to newschoolers.com to vote for it!

More shots to come later in the week. Keep checking back!

Word is Grouse Mountain is in top form right now. Get up there before the season is over!

Alterna Shoot – Through the lense of Graham Dalik

Sunday March 29th was a beautiful day. Blue skies, warm temperatures, and a 70 foot stepdown manicured to perfection. The Showdown Over the City was a thing of the past but that beast of a jump used for the competition still remained, begging to be hit. Jeff Silcock, the Grouse Mountain Events Manager, invited the Alterna Films crew to come up and do a shoot on the monstrous jump. Mr Silcock also invited a small group of skiers: pro team rider Spencer Watson, local shredder and all around good guy Liam Casey, and yours truly. The jump was meticulously perfected by the park staff (and a few of the riders), and by noon, the session was on.

Unfortunately Spencer Watson was injured early on after overshooting the jump and landing nose heavy, on his left side, near the flat bottom. He went absolutely, unfathomably, HUGE. Spencer decided to call off the rest of the session. But don’t worry, he’s fine now.

I invited my good friend Graham Dalik to come up and shoot some photos. As promised, here are a few of his shots:

You can check more shots from the session and some of Graham’s other work on his flickr page.

Grouse locals Jason Macfarlane and Brian Choi were also in attendance snapping shots. As this post is already getting a little photo heavy, I will save their shots for another time.

Hope you enjoyed. I sure did.

Private Showdown Sunday March 29th

So last Sunday there were a select few skiers and snowboarders invited to hit the showdown jump. From noon to sunset the invites didnt waste a single minute. Sadly I was scheduled to work back in Coquitlam on that date, but still managed to get a few shots in after selling tools and welders for 9 hours.

Showdown Went Down, I’ve Got the Pictures to Prove It!

I’m gonna have to keep this short and sweet, seeing as it’s 12:30 am as I write this and I am a huge fan of sleeping.  They say pictures say a thousand words. If that’s the case, here’s about 8 grand worth of words.  Don’t let the pictures deceive you, the conditions were miserable, but the riding and free snacks made up for the poopy weather. There’ll be more of an update when I wake up in the morning. Enjoy!
