Numero Uno
Here we go, my first blog of the season, I’m hoping to keep my blogs updated as frequently as I can throughout the season all season long. I will be discussing any and all topics I feel will keep you interested… or not.
Today as I got of the tram this morning it was pouring rain, but as I was getting closer to the peak office I began to notice the odd wet snowflake (if you can call them that), which then turned to a heavy snow fall.
YES, it is snowing up here at Grouse and sticking! Now, I’m not getting my hopes up, as the weather forecast says rain is on its way, but either way, it seems like whenever the first snow falls I still get that super excited feeling I used to get when I was wee lil’ boy. I just like the way snow smells, feels and looks, I love when there is enough snow to blanket and cover all the worlds imperfections, making it a perfect winter wonderland.
With the snow on its way, I just wanted to get all you boys and girls excited and remind you that it was on Nov. 27 last season when we opened up the Paradise Jib Park…so get your gear ready and stay tuned!
Lost in the archives: 07/08 Opening Day Park Session
This post was never published last year, apparently. It was posted by Jeff Silcock about December 1st. Hopefully it will get everyone in the mood for a new season to begin:
Here’s a video I put together from Wednesday’s opening Night. For anyone who made it out for the opening day session hopefully I managed to catch you on film. If not, I will be filming very regularly throughout the season and hopefully get you in the next one. It was great to see so many park rats up having a good time. It seemed that the skiers were definitley showing up the boarders….not to stir anything up. JS
Paradise Jib Park Opens
Grouse Mountain’s 81st winter season officially opened November 27th with the Paradise rope tow and Jib Park open for business. We have since opened up The Screaming Eagle quad chair and The Cut and are anxiously awaiting more snow so we can get going with the park builds.
One of our byop faithfuls, Andrew Prost, provided this photo of the first jib park set-up.
This season at Grouse we have designed and built some new features for the park. We decided to keep it simple and try our best to keep it Mother Earth friendly. We were able to create our new features using roughly 80% reused or recycled material that I found either on Grouse or on the internet.
Our biggest feature is a 40’ long, 8”diameter retired snowmaking pipe that has been raised to 9’ and will be set atop a spine as a flat bar. The other big project is a recycled pontoon trailer cut into a fat stall bar for atop our QP that will be maintained more frequently and properly with the help of our new park groomer. Also in the mix will be a variety of steel and plastic barrels, rails and random jibs.
