So here it is; my first post to Grouse Park.  Being as none of you really know me, I should probably introduce myself.  My name is Hamish and I’m Scottish.  I grew up there, though I now live near Boston, MA.  I started snowboarding in Waterville Valley (East Coast jeaa!), NH, and it wasn’t long before shredding began to take over my winters.  I finished high school after a few years of being a weekend warrior and proceeded to spend the following year as a ski bum in New Zealand and Colorado.
Now, I go to school at UBC, which despite the work and classes, really isn’t all that far off from living like I did in a ski resort.  I’m up at Whistler pretty much every weekend, and now, thanks to Sam as well as all of you reading this, am going to be spending a lot more time on the North Shore Mountains shooting photos… stoked! But rather than go on rambling, I’m going to leave you with two of my photos; the first is from the bottom of the world, and the second is from a more familiar place just up the road.
Enjoy.

Another Introduction

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Bill Hawley.  Born and raised seven minutes from the mountains in North Vancouver, I’m a new addition to the Grouse Park Blog and very grateful for it!  As much as I’m new to the blog, I’m not so new to the mountain. I started skiing at Grouse when I was 3 years old and it just became the regular thing to do after school and on weekends. Things progressed from there and when I was about 12 years old, I picked up my parents little point and shoot camera, took a few pictures around the house to keep myself busy and that’s when I realized what I wanted to do for fun.  Skiing and photography.  Now, I’m finally starting to combine the two and it’s proving to be the most kick ass thing I know how to do.

So, now that you know who I am, don’t be shy if you see me up the mountain, I’m the guy wearing the bright blue jacket and pants looking like I shouldn’t be shredding the park.  Come say hi and maybe strike up a conversation! The temperature’s dropping a little bit, so let’s be optimistic and say that’s a sign of snow on the way. Here’s some of my most recent shots to keep you stoked on the season, enjoy!

Hey Everyone!

Hey guys,

My name is Alice Gorton and I’m really excited to have the opportunity to write for Grousepark.com this season! I started skiing at Grouse Mountain when I was around 8 years old. I had no idea how to do it, I would just rip down the mountain and fall when I needed to stop. After that phase, I started snowboarding, I was 11 years old and I instantly fell in love with it. I am 16 now, and since then, Grouse has become like a second home to me. I have made some great friends through this sport and through grouse and together we have had some wonderful experiences.  This season, I have been lucky enough to have ridden Grouse Mountain, Seymour, Whistler and a mountain called Sunshine in Calgary. However, Grouse Mountain has always been the go to mountain for me, as I live in Richmond and have a very convenient sky train, sea bus and bus ride there, which is actually a lot shorter than it sounds.  Anyways, the game plan for this season is to have the best day ever, every day. I’ll also keep you updated with whats going on in snowboarding, whats going on at Grouse Mountain and who’s killing it. Don’t be afraid to come up and say hi if you see me riding this season! It would make my day!

Below are a few pictures of me snowboarding at Grouse mountain

Eric Beckstead’s Life

Hey everybody,

Seeing as this season I’m going to be sharing the latest and greatest in the ski world and well, everything else to do with that white stuff that seems to fall out of the sky every year around this time, I thought I’d first share what I’m all about.  That way, you know it’s legit.

Alright so my name’s Eric Beckstead. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta for 18 years and I first started skiing at age two and a half. Those first turns…or snow plows, were taken at Kimberly ski hill in B.C. I immediately fell in love with the sport, everything about it intrigued me. From the good vibes, adrenaline rushes, beautiful settings, to generally just the good atmosphere of skiing. I couldn’t imagine a better way too spend a winters day. Throughout the winter, as a kid, I would drive my parents nuts, begging them to take us skiing. By the time I was 6, I was ripping past my parents and I was even giving my then 12 year old sister a run for her money. I would always be cutting into the trees and ripping as quick as I could and launching of anything that, well, could launch me off at all. It wasn’t until I was 14 or so that I began to make skiing my life. I was skiing in the park one day at C.O.P (Canada Olympic Park) when I randomly ran into one of my good friends Ryan Waddell. Remember that name, whenever he’s not injured he’s always out killin it.

Anyways, not to digress, but when I watched him and a friend, Noah, hitting the jumps there and floating the smoothest 3′s and 5′s I’d seen up too that point, I instantly decided to make skiing the main focus of my life. I joined C.O.P’s club ski team, C.O.P Freeskiers, the next season where I skied and competed for three years. I also began teaching at C.O.P when I turned 16. I then went on to coach Freeskiers the following season. When i graduated from Lord Beaverbrook High School, I realized I would need to live somewhere where I could go to school and ride as much as possible.

I got accepted into the Art Institute of Vancouver for film and video production. This seemed to workout well with my plan, seeing as I have several incredible ski hills just hours away. Once here, I wanted to be skiing whenever I could and keep in touch with the community. Once again, my plans worked out when I got accepted as a Grousepark.com Blogospondent for this 09/10 season. Here, I plan on letting you guys know the lowdown on all things important on the snow and industry fronts. I also plan on filming as much as i can when out and throwing up something new for you all.

My camera got stolen, so hopefully mom and dad are feeling generous this Christmas and help me out with the camera fund. Then I can throw up some pics. Oh, and any donations are quite welcome! Anyways I’m really stoked on coming out here and spending the season at Grouse. Enjoy it locals, this place has the most beautiful views! (I’d put up some pics if I had a camera..). If any of you see me ridin’ give me a shout, always down to shred! Currently, I’m reppin’ some earth tone gear, green pants, brown jacket and ridin’ Urban Punx or my JJ’s. I like to switch it up so you might have too see through my disguises, hahah. So, there’s a little insight on what makes me who I am. Hope too see all you locals and visitors alike up there!

peace

Keep it real, Grouse!

Shredd it like cheese!!

Hello, My Name is…

Hello readers,

My name is Jason, or as most of my friends call me, Frodo, and I have been lucky enough to be chosen as one of the Grousepark bloggers this year. I am a skier and have been skiing at Grouse Mountain since I was about 4 years old. Luckily enough, I live a mere 15 minute bus ride away from the mountain, so if I am free, you can bet I will be skiing. I am pretty recognizable on the hill, with an outerwear look consisting of tight pants and tall tees. If you see me, don’t be shy and say hello! Another thing I can usually be recognized by is a camera in my hand. I love to shoot pictures and if the weather is good chances are I won’t be caught up Grouse Mountain without my camera.

Speaking of pictures, here are some fresh pictures from the other day in the park.

Hey it’s Cam!

Alright! So, after many attempts and failed trial runs, the account finally works! I may have, according to many of those who know me, a head full of sawdust, and my luck with blogging so far has been a direct result of it. Until now! I guess I should do this intro thing…

cam-harris

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Cam Harris. Locally grown, I have skied at Grouse Mountain basically for my entire skiing career, which began in a rather recent grade four. I did the race program on the mountain for a couple years, but very quickly migrated towards the park, having a budding and keen interest in big jumps and rails and what not. I’ve been hitting the park avidly for the past 4 years, and have never lost interest.

I love to bring up my camera and get shots of, well, basically anything around the mountain. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I also like to do a little video editing, provided there is some footy my buds can throw at me. Thanks guys!

I am super, super stoked to be working with the rest of my fellow bloggers. From what I’ve seen so far, this is going to be THE place to stay updated and get learned on everything park-savvy. Like everyone behind the blog, I will do my absolute best to throw some innovative and insightful words together, topped off with pics and the occasional fun, fresh edit. Count it!

cam-harris-skiing

So, until next time, I look forward to seeing all of you in the park soon. I’m that guy in the orange helmet, red jacket and white pants, most likely followed by some crazy guy with a cane and his Nikon Coolpix. Feel free to hit me up on Facebook and drop me a line!

Make it artsy, make it poppin,

Cam

Hello from Scott!

OH HEY! So i found ten minutes in my day!  And well its time to write my first entry…  So as a few may know already, my name is Scott Titterington, I am a 19 year old, and I like to ski, photograph and party (order may vary due to season).   You may see me walking around with my camera in my hand alot of the time, or maybe on my two sticks I like to play around on.  Either or come up and say Hello.

With all this snow falling on the city, I am not getting alot of free time due to urban shoots, and Christmas portraits.  I still havent done my Christmas shopping!  Last night was we found some time to get the original gang together and all went out to have some fun in the city.  Turned up with this one:

liam-casey

If you dont already know this kid (Liam Casey) go give him a high five.  Dont ask me how he does stuff like this, but he usually says if he has seen it before, he knows its possible.  This year I will be doing alot of shooting around Grouse Mountain, so if you see me around, come tap me on the shoulder, or even just come up and introduce yourself if i already dont know you.

Anyways I gotta get back to my regular schedule for this week, and will most likely see you up at Grouse Mountain.

Check out my portfolio.
