X Games Real Snow Street: My Picks for Round 1.

Since it's inception in 2011, X Games Real Snow has easily become the most anticipated snowboard video contest of the winter season. The 2013  X Games Real Snow Street videos dropped yesterday and this year's edits live up to the hype.

The roster is perfectly built with veterans Eero Ettala, Jeremy Jones, and Pat Moore (2012 Real Snow Bronze) mixed in with young guns Dan Brisse (2011 & 2012 Real Snow Gold),  Ethan Deiss, and Bode Merrill. The pack is rounded out with two poutine eating french Canadians; Frank April, and Louis-Felix Paradis (2011 Real Snow Silver).

I have come up with my own scoring system to determine my picks for the first round. I'm judging each video on four criteria with a point value of 1 - 5 (with 5 being the best, this isn't golf) and they are; 1) Feature Creativity 2) Trick Innovation 3) Gnar Factor and 4) Steez.

All star line up including two poutine eaters.

All star line up including two poutine eaters.

Eero vs. Ethan. Eero - Feature Creativity: 5, Trick Innovation: 4, Gnar Factor: 4, Steez: 5, Total: 18. Eero's video is one of the best in the contest. Back 180 off the Stone Henge looking thing, Nose Press-Tame Dog up the ledge, and Double Back over the skate park?! Ethan - Feature Creativity: 3, Trick Innovation: 3, Gnar Factor: 3, Steez: 3, Total: 12.Ethan lands bolts which is tight. He gaps a lot but the gaps aren't that consequential, and his tricks aren't crazy new - he falls back on a lot of 270's. Ethan does a lot of 'classic' jibbing but fails to bring the new tricks. He slams that one Transfer-Wall Ride pretty heavy but overall the Gnar Factor is missing. Eero is going to win this one.

Jeremy vs. Frank (Dueling Headbands). Jeremy - Feature Creativity: 5, Trick Innovation: 5, Gnar Factor: 4, Steez: 4, Total: 18. Jeremy brings the latest hype tricks, and big freestyle to the street in the features and tricks he chooses. One of the biggest Fastplants I've ever seen and that slingshot re enter?! All with tons of style. Frank - Feature Creativity: 5, Trick Innovation: 5, Gnar Factor: 4, Steez: 5, Total: 19. Frank is fast, greasy and steezy! Dropping big classic hammers like the 270 to fakie down the 40 stair, to the hyper innovative 5050 Backflip Boardslide to fakie and the hella tight closer 270 in to Switch Wallride freakshow. Frank is gonna win this one.

Dan vs. Bode. Dan - Feature Creativity: 5, Trick Innovation: 4, Gnar Factor: 5, Steez: 5, Total: 18. Dan basically finds the absolute biggest jibs imaginable. When everyone else is looking around for jibs, Dan is looking up. From the the huge Switch Front Board BS 450 out opener, to the Switch Backside Boardslide 270 out from the roof, to the consequential Front Board 270 out closer there isn't a dull second in this edit. Bode - Feature Creativity: 5, Trick Innovation: 5, Gnar Factor: 5, Steez: 4, Total: 19. Bode is known for his one footed antics and in this edit he drops some one footed hammers; over the backstop, and inverted off the two story parking garage. This one is tough to call but I think Dan is gonna win... or maybe Bode.

Louis vs. Pat. Louis - Feature Creativity: 4, Trick Innovation: 4, Gnar Factor: 4, Steez: 4, Total: 16. Louis brings a few bangers but overall the part doesn't stand up to the other edits this year. Nollie drop Wallride, Switch Hardway 270 down the 40 set, Handplant/drag Japan, Wallride Frontflip out are the stand out tricks. Pat - Feature Creativity: 5, Trick Innovation: 5, Gnar Factor: 5, Steez: 4, Total: 19. Gnarly, fast, technical, innovative, consequential. Pat plays to win and he is going to win this round.
