Mid March Photo Contest

Hey all,

We’ve got a bunch of stuff to give away , so we’re having another Grousepark.com contest.  Up for grab are a pair of Grouse Mountain/Oakley Crowbar collab goggles as well as a prize pack from our sponsors.  Here’s the rundown.

  1. Take some pictures of anything ski/board realated.
  2. Pick your favourite.
  3. Email it to contest@grousepark.com.

From there, our team of bloggers will pick the top three entries and the pictures will get posted on our Facebook fan page.  Then you gotta get your friends to vote on it by liking the pictures.  The shot with the most like in two days will win the contest.  Simple as that!  Deadline for photo submissions is Wednesday, March 18th and please include rider credits if possible.

Remember: They have to be pictures that you have taken, not pictures of you riding taken by someone else. This is for up and coming photogs.

Skiing Hits the Waves

Just when you thought you’d seen everything, those crazy skiers have taken over the waves.  It seems that regardless of what board sport it is, there is a ski equivalent.  Skateboarding has rollerblading, snowboarding has skiing, wakeboarding has wakeskiing, but till now, the OG board sport, surfing, was assumed to be safe.  Not the case anymore.  The Solomon freeski team has figured out a way to ski waves.  In my opinion, it looks pretty ghetto and I hope it goes nowhere, but I’m just biased.  Let’s see you guys get a waved without a jet ski.  Happy paddling!

Oakley Night Jams: Bigger Than Ever

The Oakley Night Jam is back this Friday and we’re doing it bigger and better than we’ve done it all year/all last year/all the year before that…you get the idea.  Anyways, last time we gave away two pairs of goggles, word has it there there is more from where that came from as well as a pair of limited edition Grouse Mountain/Oakley collab Crowbars.  I’ve got a pair myself and they are the bomb dot com.  Remember, it’s a free comp, so don’t be shy and come on out, regardless of skill level.  Last night jam, the winner was a guy who had been riding for a mere 3 weeks and board slid the elbow kink in the face of some heavy competition from Grouse locals Shayan Aghourlikhani and AC Cervantes, as well as park ranger Tom Robinson.  We’re all about progression and fun, so we’re bringing our very own Charlie Grinnell back on the mic to keep you all entertained with his vocal cords, which, rumour has it, are insured for over a million dollars.  Anyways, long story short, be there and get some free product while having a good time.  We’re gonna mix up the format a little this time so you’ll want to make sure you’re there for whatever crazy idea we come up with.

Oh yea, and it’s free, so no excuses.

Thrasher’s Hall of Meat: Jake Carmichael

Park ranger Chris Dedinsky sent me this gnarly video.  If you think you’ve had some pretty hard bails on a snowboard, here’s an example of why skateboarding is, and will always be, more badass than anything on snow.

Orage March Madness Ski Comp

For all you skiers out there, the only ski comp in Vancouver is dropping on March 6th at Mount Seymour.  Here are the details from the Facebook group, which you should also join.

“Join us March 6th, 2010 for Orage’s “March Madness Slopestyle Contest” at Mount Seymour, BC, where we’ll be getting the shred down with Comor Sports, Mount Seymour and Snowrider.org. Registration is only $15 bucks which includes your lift ticket and lunch. Athletes will kick off the day at approximately 10am and ride till we’re done! Top three will take home a fist full of goodies including a $1000 Orage shopping spree to Comor Sports for 1st place, a $750 Orage shopping spree for 2nd and a $500 Orage shopping spree for 3rd. We will have a grom level heat for plankers under the age of 15. Be sure to bring your own BBall jersey for the contest and as with all contests, helmets are mandatory! No Jersey, No Helmet, No shred.”

So remember, no basketball jersey, not helmet, no ski.  Oh, and don’t forget your $15.  Yea!

Oakley Safehouse: The Olympics Best Kept Secret

Millions of people have walked by the Oakley Safehouse in the past two weeks and haven’t even realised that one of the more fun places to be during the games has been a mere steps away from them.  True to the title, the Safehouse is one heck of a beast to get into.  However, given the fact that Oakley is one of our major mountain sponsors, I was able to get in this afternoon with fellow blogger and friend, Hamish Baxter.  The layout of the Safehouse is pretty straight forward.  It’s a super casual environment, with couches, plenty of TVs, a snack bar and little kitchen in the back for lunch sandwiches and drinks.  Hamish and I spent the afternoon watching the men’s hockey semis (BLAOWout), and just keeping it mellow.  The staff was super awesome, made us feel right at home and even served us a delicious lunch of pulled pork awesomeness.  After lunch, I had the opportunity to add a little personal flare to my Oakley/Grouse Mountain Colab Crowbars and got the outriggers changed from white to gold.  The gold on black combination looks super dope.  I couldn’t get the strap changed to Olympic edition straps because those were reserved for the athletes, but I’m stoked on these Crowbars.  New gold lens and I’m good to go.  Here a few pictures from the day.
