Random Goodies: Ski Industry Happenings.
Right, time for an update on some happenings in the ski industry.
Here we go!
Dumont Cup
The first ever Dumont Cup is going down this Saturday April 11th at Sunday River, Maine. Hosted by the man himself, Simon Dumont, the competition is open to anyone who thinks they have what it takes to shred with the big boys (big as in ski ability, not necessarily stature, sorry Simon). TJ Schiller, Jossi Wells, Tom Wallisch, Laurent Favre, amongst other super pros, are said to be competing.
The course looks like it will be HUGE. Loaded with everything you would expect from a RedBull/Dumont collaboration; a 70 foot tabletop, 80 foot step down and a few rails for good measure, this looks to be one of the biggest set ups for an open competition to date. The Dumont Cup will undoubtedly be a good show.
Nine Knights

If Maine is a little too far for you to go to compete, you may want to nix this next competition too. The Nine Knights, hosted by Nico Zacek, will be taking place April 13 – 18 in Nebelhorn, Germany. Last year, the Nine Knights had one of the coolest set-ups (read: wicked cool snow sculpture) ever built.
This years setup looks to be a pretty large step above last years. The snow castle comes complete with its headline feature, a massive step over jump, two quarter pipes (with a channel gap inbetween), a hip jump, a rail feature, and what looks to be a spine. Ohh…and a loop. A Loop? Like JP Auclair circa Propaganda? Yep a loop! This one should be very cool. Options galore! Check out an interview with Nico Zacek about the up comming event.
Superunknown VI Winner
Superunknown VI winner Niklas Eriksson. Photo: level1productions.com
Level 1 Productions have finally reached a decision on this years Superunknown winner. Much to the dismay of the 100 or so other entrants, Niklas Eriksson took this years title. Niklas’ smooth style, technical prowess, and most notabily his performance at this years JOI, helped him to land the title. Big things are expected for the up and commer. Word is he has some pretty nast double flips. Check his latest edit, Superunknown entry video, and what John Symms had to say about the win over at ESPN.
Chris Benchetler Interview

Mr. Benchetler. Photo: downdays.eu
Atomic pro and Nimbus rider, Chris Benchetler recently participated in a rather interesting interview with the folks at downdays.eu. Benchetler spoke (or didn’t) about his new skis, injuries, his season and more. If only more interviews were done like this…what a refreshing change from the ordinary. If you liked the Benchetler interview, check out these interviews with Euro freeskier, Tobi Reindl, and Banana Man!
Remember to check out Benchetler in all the Nimbus webisodes as they continue to drop over the season.
Well, that’s all for now. Get out on your shred machines while Grouse Mountain is still truckin!

Grouse Park : Rookie Park Update
The fun factor at the Grouse Mountain Rookie terrain park has increased by a very large number. After the build for the Office Booyz contest, the rookie park is looking better than it has all season…or ever, for that matter. There’s a quarter pip/spine, two tires to do whatever you want on them, filing cabinets and desks to jib, boxes setup in a C formation, a whale tail to down box combo and an exquisitely manicured jump to top it all off. I was going to take pictures of some of the features for you, but I was having the most fun riding park I’ve had all year. I’d suggest going up and checking it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed. Props to the park crew!
Additionally, the Quiksilver terrain park now has a FIVE hit jump line. What!? Yea, you heard right, the jump set up is so amazing right now. No more needing to straight line from the lifts! Throw up a big ol’ whoop whoop for Shaw Butterworth and his jump building!
I should be studying for exams, but after riding today, I’m pretty sure I’ll be spending all weekend in the parks. You should too!
Don’t hate, just ride,
Sam

Office Booyz!
The good folks over at Malakye are bringing the Office Booyz contest series out to Grouse Mountain on Thursday, April 9th. All you shop boys and girls out there are invited and riding in free for the first 100 enterants. Incidentally, that’s also the rider cut off, so get there between 8-10:30 am to get registered. The contests goes till 2 pm, or till whenever you get tired of riding. This is a good chance for all of you out there that are looking to connect with some industry people, have a good time or sneak some free donuts to do any or all of those things. There should be an update on the event from one of the other bloggers. I’ll be missing out, but I’m sure it’ll be a great time, so make sure you get up there to check it out.
The reasons I’m missing out is that fellow blogger CJ and I are headed to Big White for the day. I’ll be riding some 2010 Stepchild product, so be sure to check back near the end of the month when all the goods we tested will be started to get posted! Sorry, final exams get in the way of writing and riding.
Get out on your skate if you can’t get on the snow!

Hello!
Coming at you today with a music video from Alterna! I know, I know, it sounds weird but this was on their blog and the video is sick! Put together by the filming/editing/computer genius Mr. Bryant Bell, the video showcases a super cool view of different things in the city, great song as well! Enjoy!
